In the name of importing sandpaper billions of taka (BDT) has been sent to abroad via bill of exchange (hundi). The import value was declared one tenth of the actual price. Although nearly three billion taka worth of sandpaper has been imported over the past 13 years, its actual price is at least 10 times higher than what was showed. Experts say that weak revenue policies and lack of supervision are the reasons behind such fraud. An investigation conducted across Bangladesh, Singapore, and Thailand has revealed this syndicate of bringing products through under-invoicing.
